Major fire in AMRI Hospital of kolkata - 41 Feared Dead

There is still no clarity about what had caused the fire. Report says that many bodies have been moved to SSKM Hospital. Bodies were identified, but sources say some of the bodies were burned as they can not identify. Twenty people already died of suffocation in a massive fire that broke out in AMRI hospital in south Kolkata on Friday. Total 41 Feared Dead in this major fire, as report says.


About 25 fire tenders worked hard to clear all the patients and staff. As well as reports said the fire was doused, said Fire Services Minister Javed Khan, there was still fire in the basement.

"There is still fire in the basement, we try to control many oxygen cylinders, and we have saved many people," he said.

"The fire engulfed three floors of buildings Dhakuria AMRI hospital," a city police officer manning the control room told IANS on telephone.

161-bed hospital is located in Kolkata Dhakuria.

Firefighters using ladders, ICU, ICCU, ITU and smashed the windows in the mask to rescue patients trapped inside the ICU.
Fire Services Minister Javed Khan said that the fire spread due to highly flammable materials.
Did not have proper fire fighting equipment in the hospital, he said.

Exactly in the year March 25th 1911,that is a century back,one Triangle Garment Factory in New York, was gutted by fire wherein 146 work ers perished including 129 women workers among them.And that was the starting point of giving a cleanest working facility with the highest standard of Safety for the workers, free from any harassment and tension.
    But what happened in India is most tragic inci dent of fire in a Hospital where more than 90 patients perished.What an irony it is to hap pen in a Hospital meant to save the lives and not to destroy the lives.Would we learn a les son from the this gruesome incident like the Americans,to provide a clean and safe work environment for all?
