Indian Parliament Take Final Decision on Lokpal

The Parliamentary Standing Committee headed by Abhishek Manu Singhvi will meet on Wednesday to adopt the final draft, following which the much-awaited report could be presented in Parliament next week.

Sources have confirmed to CNN IBN that the 57 lakh odd central government employees will not be under the Lokpal. They will instead be under the CVC. State government C and D employees will be under their respective Lokayuktas.

The inclusion of the Prime Minister has been left to Parliament as there is no consensus in the committee.Singhvi said that he had only sought a procedural extension for a few days, basically for translation and printing, which could not be described as delay

Sources say the government is open to the option of including the Prime Minister, but he cannot be held responsible for any decision taken by a minister. The judiciary will be included not in the Lokpal, but in the judicial accountability and standards bill.
